Landowner Stewardship Program honored for conservation in Solano County

Winters, CA – Audubon California’s Landowner Stewardship Program recently was honored with the 2007 Partner of the Year Award by the Solano Resource Conservation District for helping the agency work with private landowners to conserve and restore birds and wildlife habitats on farms, ranches, and other rural properties.

The District’s Partner of the Year Award recognizes ongoing efforts to preserve, restore and protect the natural resources, fish and wildlife habitat, water quality and native plant communities of Solano County. The most recent recipient of the award was the Dixon Resource Conservation District.

“We’re pleased that the Solano Resource Conservation District has recognized the importance of working cooperatively with private landowners to promote conservation,” said Vance Russell, director of the Landowner Stewardship Program.

The program is currently working with the Resource Conservation District and a number of county landowners to implement habitat restoration projects, build restoration capacity at the district and pursue innovative new ideas for conservation in the region.

“Working with Audubon California’s Landowner Stewardship Program has greatly improved our ability to plan, design and install high quality habitat restoration projects. Their advice and willingness to loan equipment and offer technical support have been invaluable to us over the past year” said Jodie Salz, director of the Solano Resource Conservation District.
